Selling Sneakers in Canada

Canadian sellers can make big money if they land the right sneaker or sell a ton of pairs. But what’s the best way to flip your inventory?

There are many ways to flip shoes. You can sell them hand-to-hand to people you know, drop them off at consignment shops such as Essential Canada or Staying Fresh, list them on Kijiji, or sell them through sneaker websites like NXTDROP or StockX. Things to be mindful of when selling sneakers are the selling fees, the time it takes before you get paid, the effort required on your end, the outcome in the event you get scammed.

Below is a roundup of sites and stores, and what to expect when using these selling outlets.

StockX

Location: Based in Detroit, online marketplace

Selling process: StockX uses a bid/ask process. The sellers list the sneakers for a price they are willing to give up their pairs for, and buyers can choose to buy or not. Buyers can also list prices they are comfortable with, and once sellers are OK, they can sell their shoes for that much. Once a transaction happens, StockX will email you a shipping label, and you have two days to send the sneakers for verification. The sneakers must be in the original box and unworn.

Fee: Seller fees are 9.5 percent, but the rates will decrease as soon as you complete three sales. Shipping costs $13.95. Payment processing is 3 percent.

Payment process: It’s put in your PayPal account once the shoes are verified and shipped. You can also opt for direct deposit.

NXTDROP

Location: Based in Calgary, online marketplace.

Selling process: The selling process is similar to StockX. NXTDROP also uses a bid/ask process. The sellers list the sneakers for a price they are willing to give up their pairs for, and buyers can choose to buy or not. Once a transaction happens, NXTDROP will email you a shipping label, and you have two days to send the sneakers for verification. The sneakers must be in the original box and unworn.

Almost every consignment shop in Canada works this way.
